Council Member Chris Riley billed for $7,000 in unpaid property taxes

Earlier this month, City Council Member Chris Riley cut a check for $7,294.87 to cover unpaid property taxes on his downtown Austin home.

The Travis Central Appraisal District determined he owed those taxes after an anonymous complaint was filed in June, accusing Riley of getting a full homestead exemption for a decade even though he rents out the two upstairs units in his home on San Antonio Street.
