Family of Illinois Boy Sues Over Bullying
The family of Joaquin Del Core is suing a classmate at his Illinois elementary school, alleging the other boy kicked, pushed, choked and threatened to kill him, a move that comes as more children and their families turn to the courts to deal with bullying.
The two children, who finished third grade this month, attend Robert Frost Elementary School in Mount Prospect, Ill., about 30 miles northwest of Chicago. Joaquin's mother, Deveri Del Core, filed the lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court on Tuesday. The suit also names the school district, the principal and the other child's parents as defendants.
"As a district, and at each of our schools, we value the safety and security of each and every one of our students and staff members and take bullying prevention very seriously," Superintendent Kate Hyland said in a statement released Wednesday.
