To help migrants, Austin might offer services, issue city ID cards

The Austin City Council on Thursday could take a stand on two controversial ideas aimed at helping people who come to the United States illegally.

Under a proposal from Council Member Laura Morrison, the city would express support “for efforts to provide services” to unaccompanied minors from Central America who are illegally crossing the Texas border.
