New study shows fewer women having abortions in Texas

Fewer Texas women are having abortions following the passage of stricter abortion laws in the state, but those who do are waiting longer to have the procedure. Dr. Daniel Grossman, An O.B. GYN and author of a study on the issue says the abortion rate has decreased 13 percent, but the new laws are not really having any medical benefits. He says,"If anything, we did find that there was a very small but significant increase in the proportion of aboirtions that are being done in the second trimester." Grossman says women are waiting because their access to a safe abortion has been reduced with the closure of nearly half the abortion clinics in the state.
