Third suit expected in Austin police shooting as city’s expenses grow

As the criminal case against a now-retired detective works its way through the legal system, Austin taxpayers are poised to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for lawyers to handle a growing number of lawsuits filed by family members of the man the officer shot and killed.

The cost to the city could soar even higher if officials decide to settle those cases before they go to trial.
