Few subjects are harder for school administrators to deal with than the student body -- literally. In June, the word cleavage caused consternation for Arlington school board members grappling with a new dress code, which most students and parents will get their first look at during registration this week.

"I don't know an easy way to put this," Trustee Gloria Peña said. "The cleavage line is getting further and further down [in teen fashion]. The only words I can think of are 'no cleavage.'"

Board President Sherri Wade, a teacher in the Kennedale school district, tackled the problem.

"I think as far as cleavage goes, we all smile when we hear that word," Wade said. "But it's in the dictionary, it's a real word and I don't have a problem putting that in our dress code."
