Gates Enoch, the son of a former Texas Supreme Court chief justice who admitted collecting more than 150 images of children engaged in sex acts, was sentenced to 22 months in prison today by the judge who previously balked at accepting his guilty plea.

Enoch, 21, also must submit to 20 years of supervised release — a form of parole — under the sentence handed down by Senior U.S. District Judge James Nowlin.

Federal guidelines called for a prison sentence of at least seven years, seven months and no more than 10 years. Nowlin had to consider the guidelines but was not required to follow them.
