Meet the Swedish physicist who has written 8.5% of everything on Wikipedia

He may not be a Shakespeare or a Charles Darwin, but Sverker Johansson should probably be just as famous simply for the sheer volume of articles he has written.

For the Swedish physicist can put his name to a staggering 2.7million entries - or some 8.5 per cent - that appear on the seemingly never-ending database of the online encyclopedia.

The 53-year-old claims to have created a small Wikipedia article - known as a stub - for every known bird species and fungus as well as cataloguing obscure animals such as butterflies and beetles.

But his prolific output - which on a good day can top 10,000 entries - is controversial because rather using his fair hand, he employs a computer-generated algorithm known as a bot to do the work for him.
