SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - High Times magazine isn't very high on the High Time Station pot shop. The parent company of the pot magazine is suing the owner of the legal marijuana shop in Washington state, claiming trademark infringement. His lawyer is declining to comment.

CROWDED BALLOT

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York state voters could be seeing a crowded ballot this November. As many as 12 parties may put up candidates for governor this fall, including the Rent is Too Damn High Party. Jimmy McMillan wants to run again. He became a TV and Internet sensation in 2010 with his Rent is Too Damn High line. Another group seeking a place on the ballot is the Sapient Party, which describes itself as the "party of wisdom."

WAVE HOGGING

HONOLULU (AP) - It's surfers versus paddleboarders in Hawaii. Charges of wave-hogging are now drawing the attention of state officials. At issue are prime surfing spots off beaches on Oahu's south shore. The proposal by the Department of Land and Natural Resources would ban stand-up paddleboards, surf kayaks and the like in designated surf zones from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The surfers' group Safe Surf Hawaii says it's a safety issue. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the surf zone proposal would be a year-long pilot program.

Doctors told him he'll need a knee replacement. A future hearing will determine how much Whigham should get.

PETS-BACK TO SCHOOL BLUES

UNDATED (AP) - It's time to go back to school -- and your little ones may have some trouble adjusting. We're not talking kids -- but dogs. Pooches used to having their pals around all the time may miss their young companions. Dr. Nick Dodman, of Tufts University's Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Massachusetts, says dogs can experience separation anxiety. Dodman suggests to make leaving a happy time with toys and treats. He also says to create a place in the house where the dog feels safe. If Rover can't adjust, you may need to take a trip to the vet.
