A new report just released by the Austin-based group, Texans Care for Children, shows Texas children are lagging behind the rest of the nation.
Findings in "A Report on the Bottom" show that, when compared to children in other states, Texas children are more likely to drop out of school, grow up in poverty and not receive needed mental health services. It also shows Texas is number three in teenage pregnancy and first in repeat teen pregnancy. Eileen Garcia, the CEO of Texans Care for Children, has a simple message for state lawmakers. "It’s time to look at a really balanced way of balancing the budget and that means exploring some revenue options that don’t impact the average Texas family and help us get ahead."
Garcia says Texas has the resources to do that, but those resources haven’t been used properly. For more information on the report, go to http://txchildren.org/Report.
