How the Dow Jones industrial average did Wednesday

The stock market was mixed on Wednesday as investors pored over more earnings reports.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell. IBM accounted for most the Dow's loss after the stock slumped in the wake of a weak earnings report. The Standard & Poor's 500 index logged a small gain, getting a lift from strong earnings from railroad company Norfolk Southern and electronics company TE Connectivity.
The Dow fell 41.10 points, or 0.3 percent, to 16,373.34.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 1.06 points, or 0.1 percent, to 1,844.86.
The Nasdaq composite climbed 17.24 points, or 0.4 percent, to 4,243.
For the week:
The Dow is down 85.22 points, or 0.5 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 6.16 points, or 0.3 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 45.42 points, or 1.1 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is down 203.32 points, or 1.2 percent.
The S&P 500 is down 3.50 points, or 0.2 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 66.41 points, or 1.6 percent.
