APD identifies man beaten to death

Update: The murder victim has been identified as: Alan Albert Niedermann, White male, (D.O.B. 11-18-59)

Update from 8-14-17:

The Travis County Medical Examiner’s office conducted an autopsy this morning in this case. The cause of death was determined to be from blunt force trauma. The manner of death was ruled homicide.
 
An arrest commitment was obtained for 1st Degree Murder for Ross C. Barrow.  The bond has been set at $100,000.
 
Austin Police are still actively attempting to locate the decedent’s next of kin. His identity will be released once the next of kin has been notified.

Location:    2545 W. Anderson Lane

Deceased:  White male, 57 years of age
 
Arrested:    Ross C. Barrow, White male, 30 years of age
 
On Sunday, August 13, 2017, two Austin Police officers were at 2545 W. Anderson Lane handling an unrelated, outdoor call. While speaking with the persons involved, one of the officers happened to look in another direction and saw Ross Barrow fighting with the decedent. The officer alerted the second officer and both officers ran towards the men. The officers observed Barrow kicking and stomping on the decedent as he lay motionless on the ground.  Barrow was immediately taken into custody.
 
Austin-Travis County EMS arrived on scene and attempted resuscitation without success. The decedent was pronounced at the scene at 9:34 p.m.
 
The Travis County Medical Examiner’s office will be conducting an autopsy in the morning. The victim’s identity will be released once the next of kin are notified.
 
Homicide detectives continue to speak with other witnesses.
