Austin Ranking Spotlights Illegal Immigrant Population

Austin is steadily becoming an sanctuary city, and city leaders have made it clear that's exactly how they want it.  Now, new data from the Pew Research Center puts Austin-Round Rock among the largest metro areas in the nation with the biggest population of illegal immigrants.

Coming in at #20, the metro area typically harbors about 100,000 illegal immigrants at any given time.  Of the entire immigrant population within Austin and Round Rock, 34% illegally crossed the U.S. border.  A large concentration of those illegal immigrants can be found in District 4, where council member Greg Casar has said 1/3 of his constituents came into the country under the radar and are now living illegally.

Two other Texas cities made the list -- Houston and Dallas -- and perhaps surprisingly to some, they are ranked even higher than the Capital City.  Their rankings are #3 and #4 respectively.
