The Texas Attorney General’s Office says the Supreme Court of Texas’ ruling against a Laredo plastic bag ban effectively bans similar ordinances in Austin and statewide. They also said that a municipality cannot prohibit, or ban bags.
Austin’s Ban was adopted for environmental reasons, but the latest ruling says that still not a good enough legal reason for the ban.
While this bar’s cities from the ban, Texas Special Council Austin Nimocks says what private businesses do now in reaction is entirely up to them.
