It’s no secret that voter turnout in Texas isn’t very good. Danielle Root with the Center for American Progress says the numbers might go up if the state implemented automatic voter registration because you can’t vote if you aren’t registered.
Automatic voter registration means if you have any interaction with a governmental entity then you are registered to vote and your information is transferred automatically to voting officials. Participating in the system would be voluntary.
