Senator from Texas John Cornyn is introducing a bill designed to help a kid from a poor family do better in college.

The bill called Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Program  or GEAR UP. The new bill helps local leaders tailor resources to suit the needs of individuals.

Sen. Cornyn says it will help many first-time college going children and children from low income families have the tools needed to succeed in higher education.

Such programs are already in place and doing well and Cornyn says this will only strengthen them.
