Austin area Congressman Lamar Smith successfully passes his Legal Workforce Act out of the House Judiciary Committee.

"Under the Legal Workforce Act, employers use E-Verify to check the work eligibility of new hires," said Smith.

Smith said the E-Verify system is supported by the American people and by businesses.  If the bill does eventually become law, it would be phased in over a number of years depending on the size of the business.
