Illegals Locked Up: Travis County Sheriff says he will enforce the law

Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton responds to the City of Austin and the fighter over the “Secure Communities Program”

Austin City Council members unanimously approved a resolution Thursday evening to cheers and thunderous applause that puts the city on record as opposing a controversial program aimed at helping federal agents identify jail inmates for possible deportation.

The resolution, sponsored by Council Member Laura Morrison, also directs the city manager to “research options to minimize or completely replace” Austin’s use of the sheriff-run Central Booking Facility until Travis County ends its participation in the U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement’s Secure Communities program.   Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton called Austin's Morning News to respond the city vote...
