Little girl safe after tense Amber Alert standoff

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- A 33-year-old man is in custody and a 2-year-old girl is safe following a tense standoff this morning in northwest Harris County. The child is with Victims Services and will be released to legal guardian upon her arrival. An Amber Alert was issued for the girl Friday night in Austin. This is an update to a breaking news story. HOUSTON --A standoff was underway in northwest Harris County related to an Amber Alert issued by Austin police last night. It's happening in the parking lot of a Petco at Highway 249 at Spring Cypress. There's a heavy law enforcement present at the scene. An Amber Alert was issued for a 2-year-old girl who went missing in South Austin Friday afternoon. Police say Cheyenne Johnson disappeared around 2 p.m. from Anita Drive, near Lamar Boulevard and Oltorf Street in South Austin. She's about 2 and a half feet tall, 25 pounds with brown hair and eyes. She had on a navy blue shirt with flowers and navy blue shorts. Police said she was last seen with Jesse Thomas. He is about 6'1" and 220 pounds. Thomas had on a gray T-shirt and blue jean shorts. He drives a black 2005 mercury marquis 4-door with a license plate DN3F648. It has 22 inch silver rims and damage to the rear bumper.
