New school rating system to be unveiled

School ratings in Texas will be released tomorrow and they'll be judged via a new accountability system.

The new system has only two ratings either met standards or improvement required based on four performance indexes. The Texas Education Agency's Shannon Houser says they're putting it all on one sheet for anyone to see, "The purpose of this one page summary, really, is to capture all that's really essential for parents and educators to know about the 2014 accountability status in terms of the rating and how they did on each performance index."

For the first time, schools can earn distinction designations in seven areas but they'll have to meet standards to earn the designations.
