Petition to Recall Bastrop's Mayor

The political action committee Independent Texans is seeking signatures for a petition to recall Bastrop Mayor Ken Kesselus over alleged backroom deals regarding the city's water supply.  Long a hot-button issue for Bastrop residents, the PAC says the city is in grave danger of losing its water rights.

"We believe Bastrop Mayor Ken Kesseuls has given ample cause through his law breaking to initiate this petition drive. We also believe his actions have a purpose -- to take the city back to the days of the 'good ol’ boys' -- by using the city as a conduit to drain the groundwater we share with central Texas neighbors to the financial benefit of private water interests," says Independent Texans Director Linda Curtis.

A second petition has also been formed which seeks to secure the petition rights of Bastrop voters.  Independent Texans says the current city charter has insulated the Bastrop City Council from the rights of their citizens to petition for a public vote

The issue of term limits is also being addressed.

A letter has been sent to residents of Bastrop outlining the petition and asking for signatures.  Anyone wanting to sign must either mail it back no later than July 10, or bring it in person to the city council meeting on July 12.
