Talks to rewrite the North American Free Trade Agreement have stalled and negotiators say they don't think a deal can be reached this year. Canada and Mexico say they don't like the latest demands from the U.S. concerning imported auto parts. Senator John Cornyn said he hopes negotiators will be able to rework NAFTA instead of eliminating it.
"While we are working hard to pass pro-growth tax reform, we're also looking to modernize these existing trade agreements to help add to the growth of our economy and jobs right here in the United States," said Cornyn.
President Trump has said he's willing to withdraw the U.S. from the agreement if he can't get what he wants. The next round of talks is set for November.
