SMPD officer killed issuing warrant

Suspect, shot but alive

A San Marcos police officer has been shot and killed this afternoon while serving a warrant at a home in the El Camino Real subdivision. The suspect who shot the officer was himself shot and is being hospitalized after a standoff with SWAT. The officers name has been withheld pending notification of relatives. He was wearing a protective vest as he was shot several times. No other details were immediately available.
