Travco looks at replacing StarFlight helicopters

Travis County Commissioners will consider a deal today to replace three of the county's aging Star Flight helicopters.

Travis County's emergency services department says replacing all three would cost around $30 million dollars. Seton Hospital says they're willing to pitch in ten million and the county thinks it can get another ten million selling its used aircraft, making the final price tag to the County just ten million for three new choppers. The County could decide to reduce the fleet from three to two which would be the cheapest option, or keeping the existing fleet as is and absorb the additional maintenance costs. The county is also considering selling its Huey firefighting helicopter which could fetch upwards of a million plus dollars.
