The trial challening the state's new abortion rules begins today

Today begins the trial of an abortion provider challenging the provision of House Bill 2 that requires abortion facilities to meet safety standards and upgrade to the level of ambulatory surgical centers.

Plaintiffs are Whole Woman's Health of McAllen and Reproductive Services of El Paso are trying this in a federal court. Whole Woman's Health CEO Amy Hagstrom Miller says the admitting privileges trial that they brought forth last year is now stuck in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. This trial is in regards to HB2, which she says is not based on medical science or fact.

The trial is on the docket through Thursday.
