Two Dead in Car Crash

UPDATE:  Based on witness statements, a  green Porsche sports car was traveling at a high rate of speed and entered the intersection of FM 2243 and Hwy 183A Frontage Road. Witnesses also indicated that the Porsche sports car had run the red light resulting in the collision.... A final determination of causal factors will not be made until the investigation is complete. With that, the collision remains under investigation. At this time there are no plans to file any criminal charges related to this collision.
The deceased driver of the sports car is identified as: James Hurtado, 19, Bertram, Texas
The deceased passenger of the sports car is identified as Marshall Whiteley, 17, Liberty Hill, Texas
Monday at 12:15 pm, Leander Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a fatality collision at FM 2243 and the northbound frontage road of the Hwy 183A Toll Road.
Officers arrived at the scene to discover a three vehicle collision. Early investigation indicates that a white 18-wheel tractor/trailer collided with a green sports car in the intersection of FM2243 and the northbound frontage road of Hwy183A. A third vehicle, described as a silver SUV was also struck after the initial collision between the 18-wheeler and sports car.
The driver and a passenger of the sports car were killed at the scene. A third passenger in the sports car was transported to Round Rock St. David's Hospital by ground ambulance and is described as in serious, but stable condition at this time. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured. The driver of the Silver SUV received minor injuries, and received medical attention at the scene.
Details and specific causal factors of the collision remain under investigation.
