TxDOT to Forgive Toll Late Fees

The Texas Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday a plan to wipe the slate clean for people who have racked up hefty late fees for unpaid tolls.

According to TxDOT, more than $1-billion in late fees have been forgiven, but only those that had accrued up to March 1, 2018.  Any fees beyond that date are still valid, and there will no refunds for customers who have already paid off their fees.

Moving forward, users of Austin-area toll roads will only incur late fees totaling $4 per statement, and thanks to a new state law, those fees will be capped at $48 per year.

TxDOT officials said they want to make it clear that this only applies to the late fees, but not the tolls themselves.  So if you have yet to pay those tolls, you'll still be on the hook for them.
