UPDATE: Four arrested in connection with last night's murder
Austin Police have charged the following individuals in connection with the murder of Cutberto Moran-Ayala:
• Savon Galloway, 22, Capital Murder
• Christopher Hamilton, 19, Capital Murder
• Akeem Bradford, 22, Capital Murder
A fourth subject was arrested on unrelated charges:
• Keon Walton, 19, Assault with Injury Family Violence
Galloway and Hamilton were taken into custody by Williamson County SWAT. Bradford and Walton were taken into custody by Austin Police earlier this afternoon.
A friend drove Cutberto Moran-Ayala to 4509 E. St. Elmo Road. Moran-Ayala had advertised on Craigslist to sell marijuana. Akeem Bradford contacted Moran-Ayala and the two agreed to meet for the sale. While in the parking lot, Bradford got into the backseat and discussed the transaction with Moran-Ayala.
A moment later, Savon Galloway approached the vehicle and tapped on the driver’s door. Galloway brandished a silver colored handgun and then fired into the vehicle. Galloway then reached into the vehicle with the firearm in his hand. Moran-Ayala grabbed the pistol and wrestled it away from Galloway. Moran-Ayala then began firing at Galloway from inside the vehicle. Christopher Hamilton, who was also with Galloway and Bradford, returned fire as Moran-Ayala’s friend sped away. Moran-Ayala received multiple gunshot wounds.
The friend drove Moran-Ayala back to his residence at 8038 Exchange Dr. and called police.
Galloway, Hamilton, Bradford and Walton are from the Chicago area.
Last night, Austin Police received a shots fired call at 4309 E. St. Elmo. When officers arrived they learned that two vehicles left the scene after gunshots were heard.
At approximately 10:05 p.m., officers received a call that a man was shot and was not breathing at 8038 Exchange Dr. Upon arrival, officers were directed to a male who had sustained a gunshot wound. Witnesses and officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived. Cutberto Moran-Ayala, 26 was pronounced deceased at the scene at 10:19 pm.
Homicide detectives learned that the two incidents were related. The victim of the shooting was driven from 4309 E. St. Elmo to 8038 Exchange Drive.
Homicide detectives are interviewing witnesses and following up on leads as they develop.
Based on information currently available, APD does not believe the public is at risk in relation to this incident. No arrests have been made at this time.
