Austin City Council adds electronic cigarettes or vaping to it's anti-smoking ban. Travis County Central Health Director Doctor Phil Huang (Wong) applauds the measure. "I think this is something good for public health..

Dr. Huang says the steamlike vapor from E-cigarettes contains harmful substances." These have not been proven to be safe and there's a lot of concerns regarding the number of youths that have been picking this up and getting addicted to nicotine."

Council passed the measure on consent. Dr Huang dismisses claims by proponents that vaping is safer than regular cigarettes, saying there is so much unknown about them. He believes the ban will be easily accepted by people. "I think people are pretty much used to that. There's restrictions on regular smoking at the same places you can't use E-cigarettes."

Austin's original smoking ban went into effect in 2005.
