1 dead, 1 hurt in northern California plane crash

PLACERVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a small airplane crashed near a Northern California airport, killing one person and injuring another. The El Dorado County Sheriff's office says the Starduster biplane was heading to the Swansboro Country Airport when it crashed about 7 p.m. Saturday. The Sacramento Bee reports that officials said one man aboard the airplane was pronounced dead when deputies arrived at the scene. Capt. Kalan Richards of the Cameron Park Fire Department says the other passenger was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. Authorities did not release the identities of either person. FAA spokesman Allen Kenitzer tells the Bee that the cause of the crash is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
