Lefty ready to get back to work after loss at PGA
Aug. 10, 2014
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Phil Mickelson hardly sounded like a guy who nearly won his sixth major championship. He wasn't about to let a strong finish at the PGA Championship cloud the way he felt about his year. Mickelson was right in the middle of a riveting four-man duel Sunday, but he faded on the back nine and lost to Rory McIlroy by a single stroke. Lefty closed with a 5-under 66 for a 15-under 269, but McIlroy captured his second straight major with a par at No. 18. For Mickelson, it was an encouraging performance after a largely disappointing season. He hasn't won since the 2013 British Open, and he wasn't a factor in the first three majors this year. Now, he's ready to work on weaknesses in his game.
