Alabama's Kiffin enjoying behind-the-scenes work
Aug. 03, 2014
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Lane Kiffin's job description these days is much more about the playbook than the podium. The sometimes outspoken former Southern California head coach is preparing for his first season as Alabama's offensive coordinator. That mostly keeps him out of the spotlight since coach Nick Saban seldom allows his coordinators to do interviews, an exception being Sunday's media day. Kiffin says he's "sitting here every day learning stuff from" Saban, who's won four national titles. Kiffin is only 39 and has already been head coach at USC, the NFL's Oakland Raiders and Tide rival Tennessee. He was fired last year five games into his fourth season at USC. He said he'd talked to NFL teams about becoming an assistant but instead jumped at the chance to work under Saban.
