Sarkisian: USC investigating Shaw's heroic story

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Southern California coach Steve Sarkisian says the school is investigating defensive back Josh Shaw's story that he sprained both of his ankles jumping off a balcony to save his nephew from drowning. Sarkisian said Tuesday that he has no reason to doubt Shaw's story. But USC has received calls contradicting Shaw's claims about his two high ankle sprains. Sarkisian didn't discuss the discrepancies in detail after practice, but said the school will "continue to vet" the story. Shaw wasn't made available to reporters, and he didn't immediately return a phone message Tuesday. Shaw told the school he was at a family party in Palmdale, California, when he saw his 7-year-old nephew, Carter, struggling in a pool. Shaw is a team captain and a key starter in the Trojans' secondary.
