Another battle brews at Alamo

The Daughters of the Republic of Texas are under state scrutiny in their care of the Alamo as they begin their annual convention today in Houston.  The Texas Historical Commission disagrees with updated plans for a new building at the rear of the state-owned grounds that have shifted from visitor amenities to library use, a function many feel could be moved off-site.

Two weeks ago, the governor's office got a 90-day delay in the DRT's claim for a trademark on the words “The Alamo.” If Gov. Rick Perry opposes the application, the case could go to a federal review board.
