Austin school board at-large seat headed for a runoff

Incumbent Robert Schneider won a tight race Saturday for the District 7 seat on the Austin school board.  Meanwhile, Tamala Barksdale , a marketing director at EnviroMedia, and Julie Cowan , a stay-at-home mom and school volunteer, are headed to a runoff to fill the open at-large Position 9 seat.  District 6 incumbent Lori Moya outpolled Glen Mayes, a juvenile corrections officer, to keep her South Austin seat.

Schneider, with 53 percent of the vote, fought off a strong challenge by Warren Faulkner, a retired school principal.  "I feel great," said Schneider, referring to his narrow win. "I'm glad to be able to represent the district for four more years. Hopefully we can do everything that needs to get done out here.
