Say hello to the Building America’s Trust Act. Republicans in the Senate are turning their attention towards border security.
Texas Senator John Cornyn drops the border security bill he's been talking about. Cornyn says the Building America’s Trust Act beefs up enforcement of existing laws, boosts trade through ports of entry and puts more money, machines and manpower at the border. "This is legislation I've been working on with my colleagues in the Senate and House, particularly Chairman Michael McCaul of the "House Homeland Security Committee."
Cornyn says act is designed, "To provide a comprehensive plan to secure the border and to provide resources to enforce the law of the land, particularly in the interior of the country as well." The bill also closes loopholes in immigration enforcement and calls for deploying more tech and tactical infrastructure at the border.
Cornyn says there are three main components to the bill. "To increase resources at our nation's borders, to boost trade; legitimate trade through our ports of entry and third, strengthen the enforcement of existing laws." Cornyn says this bill gives law enforcement the tools they need to stop illegal immigration and also makes the Department of Homeland Security work more closely with the communities they serve
