Galena Park suspends 7 in TAKS cheating case

The Galena Park Independent School District is investigating reports that staff at Normandy Crossing Elementary changed students' answers on the high-stakes TAKS test in April to cheat their way to higher scores.

Superintendent Mark Henry said on Thursday that the district has suspended with pay Principal Dianne Edwards, Assistant Principal Tonia Bush and five teachers.

“We are aggressively investigating this case, and if these allegations prove true, we will take the strongest possible action against these employees,” Henry said in a statement released Thursday evening. “When adults tamper with the integrity of the testing process, they do significant harm to children.”
