Houston mother, caregiver charged in baby's death

A Houston mother and caregiver have been charged in the death of a 5-month-old girl who had multiple fractures, head trauma and bruises. The Houston Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1jvsHf9) that Houston police identified the baby as Alyssa Cedillo.

Police have charged the child's mother, 20-year-old Judy Cedillo, and 27-year-old Leonardo Pereira, described by police as one of the child's primary caregivers, in the baby's death. They have been charged with injury to a child.

Cedillo is in jail on $100,000 bond. The Chronicle reports Pereira's bond is unknown. It remains unclear whether either suspect has an attorney.

Police say by the time they arrived at a Houston home on Monday, Alyssa had already been transferred to a hospital. She later died at Texas Children's Hospital.
