Texas Democrats want Dallas magistrate to be U.S. attorney, but GOP's Cornyn has a different idea

An aide to U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Austin, confirmed that Kaplan’s name has been sent to Obama for consideration. Doggett is chairman of the Democratic members of the Texas House delegation. The aide, Sarah Dohl, said Kaplan was the unanimous choice among those Democratic members.

However, it's far from a lock that he'll get the job. U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, has threatened in the past to block any nominee other than his choice, Sarah Saldana, an assistant U.S. attorney in Dallas.
