Obama Supports Gay Marriage

President Barack Obama says he now supports same-sex marriage, a declaration that ends months of equivocation on an issue with powerful election-year consequences. Obama told ABC News that he has concluded that it's important for him to affirm his view that same-sex couples should be able to marry. He said he came to the conclusion after years of talking over the issue with friends and family. Obama previously had said his personal views on the issue were evolving - a stance that frustrated his gay rights supporters.
