Some Democrats like New Jersey Senator and Democratic Presidential hopeful Cory Booker took the initiative, following Special Councel Robert Mueller’s statement about the Russia Probe, and started for immediate impeachment proceedings.
The Travis County GOP’s Andy Hogue said, “Well of Course that’s what the Democrats want.” He contended Democrats hope to use the Mueller investigation as a political tool for the 2020 election, and give candidates up and down the ballot something to campaign on. “and they want republicans to defend Trump and defend him to the point to where if there was something minor that he did, that we’ll look we were disingenuous the whole time.”
Hogue said ultimately it will be to the country’s dismay in that politicians are wasting time and political capital on this.
Special Councel Robert Mueller broke his silence today on his Russia Report.
Mueller said the Report should speak for itself but went on to say,
-Due to the policy of the Department of Justice that a sitting president cannot be charged with a crime. He added the department policy outlined, the Constitution requires the process other than the criminal justice system to formally accuse a sitting president of wrong doing. Therefore the Special Council would not reach a determination one way or the other, if the President committed a crime
-On a principals of fairness, Mueller said it would be unfair to potentially accuse someone of a crime when there can be no court resolution of the actual charge.
-Upon the conclusion to the work, Mueller said the report results was handed off to the Attorney General who decided to provide the report to the public and Congress.
-Mueller wanted certain portions of the report public while the AG wanted to release it in full. He appreciates the AG made the report largely public, Mueller added he does not question the attorney general’s good faith in that decision.
-Mueller said he would not make any testimony beyond what is contained in the report in any appearance before Congress.
