The Daily Dossier on KLBJ

President Donald Trump claims he tried to stop a crowd chant of “Send her back!” at a re-election event in North Carolina even though video shows otherwise.

The crowd’s shouts resounded for 13 seconds Wednesday as Trump made no attempt to interrupt them, pausing his speech and taking in the uproar.

The chant erupted when Trump questioned the loyalty of Somali-born Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, who says the Republican president is a “fascist” and his policies “are a nightmare.”

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee who’ll question ex-special counsel Robert Mueller next week plan to focus on a narrow set of episodes laid out in his report, an effort to direct Americans’ attention to what they see as the most egregious examples of President Donald Trump’s conduct.

The examples include Trump’s directions to White House counsel Donald McGahn to have Mueller removed. Republicans are expected to focus on Mueller’s conclusion there wasn’t enough evidence of a conspiracy.

Leander hits pause on a plan to withdraw from Capital Metro, and instead takes the item off of the agenda in hopes of new negotiations with the transit agency.

Mayor Troy Hill says the city doesn’t want to leave, but it can’t afford to pay the same rates as Austin.

Capital Metro says it would be against state law to reduce sales tax contributions for a handful of cities, but not all, so Hill and CEO Randy Clarke plan to lobby state lawmakers.

Of the 8.25{2db634631ef8bd3f096060bc7daa4fc6677d16e616113d8c02bec6b420e3105c} in state-collected sales tax, Leander get 2-cents, 1-cent of which is given to Capital Metro.

Millions of dollars was spent this week for Amazon’s Prime Day.  Locally, brick and mortar stores say it’s growing harder and harder to compete with online commerce.

Karen Galindo’s family has owned greenhouse store ‘Outside in Style’ off of 620 for more than four decades, and she tells KVUE they’re having to close their doors because people just aren’t coming anymore.

“You vote with your money, right?  You vote for who you want to be in business.  And, so, I think that, if you want a lot of choices, and you want to keep prices fair, then you should think about shopping locally, if at all possible,” Galindo says.

Analysts call it the “Amazon Effect,” and it could impact 75,000 retailers nationwide by 2026.
