Local Gun control and safety advocates are excited as Austin City Council could create a Task Force looking to combat gun violence locaLly.
Councilmember Alison Alter says the city has done alot but wants to go beyond that.
“There are long-standing resolutions that we have about advocating for gun violence prevention at the state and federal level, but we have to do more because we’re facing an epidemic and crisis, and we have a state and federal government that’s not acting,” Alter says.
Through the resolution Alter says the task force will gather hard data around gun violence in the city, so council can better focus on the causes.
