Sen. Elizabeth Warren rallies thousands of Texans in Downtown Austin

Sen Warren in Austin

A few thousand Austinites, visitors, and even a few Austin area politicians and activists rallied at Vic Mathias Shores  in Downtown Austin Tuesday night to hear from 2020 Democratic Presidential hopeful Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

The Senator put out the idea for a 2{211d4eaff5f6ab776b9f468c919065fc3aae4df093916ddbc4a838f2fb9137eb} wealth tax. As in , after you’ve made your 50-millionth dollar, 2 cents of every buck you make goes to the government after that. With those proposed dollars Warren said it would help fund a slew of programs and efforts across the country to include more funding for teacher pay and higher education. Area teacher Tyler Newfeld was excited to hear it, “when she mentioned she wants to raise our wages with the wealth tax, to pay us a professional wage. because we really are not. Average wages at my school range from about $10 to $14 an hour.”

Newfeld was not alone in her approval for the wealth tax. Kati Mellor teaches at an area Montessori school and said she could use some support as she works through her college debt, “well the policy that originally drew me into her is her student debt policies. Because I am someone  who struggles with student debt, as a college graduate.”
