Full Honors for Fallen Travis County Deputy Delayed

On March 18, 2020, Senior Travis County Deputy Christopher Korzilius lost his life in a crash on RM 2244.  Accord to the sheriff’s office, Korzilius was on his way to work in the VICE Unit, traveling in an unmarked unit when he was struck head-on by another vehicle.  He died at the scene.

While it’s customary for law enforcement to honor an officer who dies in the line of duty with a funeral that includes full honors, COVID-19 mass gathering restrictions are curtailing that opportunity at this time, officials say.  The family of Deputy Korzilius held a small, private service on Saturday and allowed it to be recorded and shared exclusively with TCSO employees.

“Not being able to ceremoniously grieve the loss of a brother and honor his noble service to the citizens of Travis County is a heavy emotional burden for the TCSO family. We’re paying respect in ways we’re able during this unprecedented time and we look forward to giving him the full honors he deserves as soon as we possibly can.”

It’s not known how long the services for Korzilius may be delayed.
