Leander ISD approves construction of new Elementary School

Depiction of a school zone

Amid a lot of uncertainty, the Leander school board approves spending more than $20-million to build the new Tarvin Elementary School.

But hitting the August 2021 school opening date may prove to be tricky.  Chief Facilities Officer Jeremy Disler told the board, construction rules due to COVID-19 is already pushing back the building timeline, and allowing work to wrap up by mid-2021 could make educating kids harder. He added, “Our preference of course is to move forward and get this under construction within 2-3 weeks.”

Two board members are in favor of delaying the build, but Disler said that would also tack on $2-million a year to the cost. Tarvin Elem. will relieve pressure on Parkside Elementary’s growing student body.
