Austin City Councilmember Greg Casar warns of a trio of economic shutdowns in Austin’s near future if covid trends don’t change. Casar says people can stop this with masks and social distancing. If not, he sees the council shutting the city down like in April. Casar added, If Governor Greg Abbott tries to step in, the city will fight a legal battle if need be.
Austin is headed in the direction of three more #COVID economic shut-downs, or worse. Read why, and what we can do about it with masks and social distancing in the THREAD below (1/5) pic.twitter.com/kS5l5cLJ2T

Scenario A, below, is the current trend in Austin. It must be our top priority to stop this trend. If people continue to go out and interact with one another without social distance and without masks, then the COVID surge will overwhelm our hospital capacity. Devastating. We can stop the devastation of Scenario A if we all wear 😷, if we social distance, if we stay home as much as possible and protect the vulnerable. Scenario B, below, shows the thousands of lives we can protect if we create a culture of taking care of one another. (3/5) pic.twitter.com/KpZKaTIkbi

If we do not Mask Up And Stay Home, then our only remaining option is Scenario C. In this scenario, business activity needs to be shut down like what happened in April. We would likely have to shut down in July, and again in September, and again in November to save lives. (4/5) pic.twitter.com/WcpAuukKSE

In the next week or two, if we cant Mask Up & Stay Home, we'll have no choice but to try to shut down activity like in April. If @GovAbbott tries to block us, we'll fight him in court & hope that common sense (& avoiding horrific catastrophe) wins the day. #COVID19
