San Marcos to Expand Public Transit in July

In anticipation of a return of Texas State University students, the City of San Marcos will expand its interurban and fixed-route services beginning next month.  New safety measures will be implemented, and they will remain in place indefinitely, the city says.

According to a release, the following changes will take effect:

Safety Practices Required
Passengers are now required to wear masks and encouraged to maintain social distancing by skipping a seat at bus stops, transit center,s and on board all CARTS transit vehicles.

Interurban Express Resumes
To coincide with the start of the Summer II semester at Texas State University, CARTS will resume the Interurban Express 1517 services between Austin and San Marcos on Monday, July 6.  Passengers may pre-purchase their tickets on the Hopthru app.

Fixed Route Services Expand
Also starting Monday, July 6, fixed-route service hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be expanded to 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Route 1 Hopkins/Wonder World will continue to run on a one-hour frequency.

The city says it will continue offering free fares throughout the month of July.
