UT shows Austin’s infection rate on the downslide

The latest UT models indicate a continued slowing of the local coronavirus transmission rate.

That rate is gauged by what is known as the “R-Naught” score, which shows how many people catch the virus from one infected person.

The models show the rate is now below one at .71, Mayor Steve Adler says anything below 1 means the virus is slowing its jump from person to person. He said , “The range is from .49 to 1.22, so we are still kind of on that edge.”

Given that Mayor Adler added, we need to keep our foot on the gas pedal and maintain the mitigation.  Another bit of promising news, though, is the 7-day average for new hospital admissions, which is now at its lowest point since late-last month when the numbers began a sharp rise.
