The Austin City Council approves a $25.5 million contract for construction of a new Del Valle fire station.

Austin Fire’s Palmer Buck said this is the first step in a five-year process. ‘The plan has been to start a station and then complete it, and start another one. So we’re opening up one a year…that allows us to plan for the personnel, the vehicles and equipping those.

Buck said once these stations are completed the fire department will come closer to the goal an eight minute response time for all calls. After this Del Valle station opens next summer work will begin on a new Travis Country station. “We hope to break ground on the Travis Country Station in June of 2020. About the same time that we’re completing the Del Valle Fire Station.”

The goal is to build five new stations in five years.
